About

Mission Statement

We, who ourselves have been touched by many helping hands from afar are now in turn called to touch the lives of others. To the best of our ability and in a spirit of compassion, we are committed to providing services and resources to those in far away places in need of modern medical care, public health education, humanitarian aid and development.

Overview

There are many people in distant places who are in desperate need of modern medical care, public health education, humanitarian aid and development. Roots International Peace Corps(RIPC),  a non-profit organization, exists to fill that need. In our own past we have been deeply touched  by the kindness of distant people whom we have perhaps never known personally. Now it is our turn to follow their example and deliver the same care to others. Therefore we now commit  ourselves to crossing the distance and providing services and resources internationally to  peopleeverywhere, regardless of their nationality, race and religion.

The Scope of What We Do

RIPC plans to organize teams of talented medical personnel with enthusiastic volunteers, including  young volunteers from colleges, pre-medical and medical schools, to form medical service groups. The team of RIPC doctors, dentists, pharmacists, medical laboratory technicians, nurses and volunteers will provide free medical care as well as educational health material to the local population. In particular,  RIPC plans to send mission critical disaster relief and provide after-disaster rehabilitation . Additionally, RIPC offers professional training and resources for self-reliant health care systems to improve local communities’ long term condition. Through cooperation with other international NGOs  (Non-Government-Organizations), Universities and Research Institutes, RIPC plans to extend its  services to many more needy communities in the world.

The Initial Yearly Activities:

I. Free Medical Services

Interspersed throughout the year, RIPC’s international medical service trips focus on improving the health facilities and quality of life of populations in developing countries or regions, including  providing timely relief to people in suffering due to wars or natural disasters. Working on the  premise that everyone has the basic right to health care, RIPC provides free medical service and health education.

II. Medical Research

1. Tropical Diseases: RIPC hopes the blood and stool samples collected from the medical service trips will contribute to the growing research on tropical diseases and bring the research to a more prominent level.

2. HIV/AIDS: The HIV/AIDS epidemic has devastated many countries in sub-Saharan Africa,  leaving in its wake a staggering death toll as well as debilitating economic and social problems.  Blood and stool samples collected from the affected regions will be used to enhance research  on the epidemic. Furthermore, RIPC is working to develop effective community-based HIV/AIDS  prevention programs.

III. Assist in building local health care systems

RIPC will provide resources to assist in developing and improving local health care systems, including hardware, software, consultation and training to local health care personnel.
